Asakusa walking route: Senso-ji, Nakamise and the Sumida River
Asakusa rewards a slower pace. Begin with a simple walking route, then decide whether you want a guide to add context or prefer to wander independently.
Start around Kaminarimon, walk along Nakamise towards Senso-ji, then leave time for the surrounding streets and the Sumida River. Rather than putting a strict time on every turn, choose one part you would like to explore more deeply. Shop opening hours and temple access are separate things, so check both if a particular stop matters to you.
A guided walk is worth considering if you want help understanding the neighbourhood or asking questions. Look for a clearly described theme and a language you are comfortable with. Independent wandering suits a day where you would rather stop for a snack, revisit a street or change direction. You do not need to book an activity for every part of the neighbourhood.

Distance and pace: compare the walking distance, breaks and any stairs.
Meeting place: note the station line and exit, not just the station name.
Food: check whether tastings are included, and ask the operator about dietary requirements.
Group size: choose a format where you will feel comfortable asking questions.
Give the neighbourhood space
Keep entrances clear and follow the signs about photography and behaviour inside religious spaces. If you are travelling with children, leave a flexible break instead of scheduling another paid activity immediately after the walk. An evening photograph does not mean shops or interiors stay open late; confirm the opening hours for your intended visit.
