A realistic budget for an independent Kawaguchiko day trip
The operator’s Shinjuku–Kawaguchiko route lists ¥2,200 per adult each way, so allow ¥4,400 for two one-way journeys. That total is a calculation, not a special return-ticket discount. The published journey is about 1 hour 45 minutes each way; traffic can make it longer. Buses leave from Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal, also called Busta Shinjuku. Follow the official terminal directions: from the station’s New South Gate, take the escalator to the fourth-floor departures area. Check your boarding bay and leave time to find it.
The operator’s FAQ says booking opens one month before departure. Reserve both journeys when you settle your date; buying on the day is possible only if seats remain. The ¥4,400 budget covers the Shinjuku–Kawaguchiko buses only, excluding your trip to Shinjuku, local transport around the lake, food and attraction entry fees. Kawaguchiko Station is an arrival point, not a complete sightseeing route. Pick a manageable set of stops and leave a buffer before your return bus.
